PMTCT Weekend Classes

 

This is a standard PMTCT course done on  Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 5pm for three consecutive weekends and culminates in a PMTCT Certificate and also contributes to CPD points.

The course is certified by the Medical Practicioners and dentists board (MPDB) and is the based on the Updated National PMTCT Curriculum

 Cource Details:

The course is comprised of six detailed modules. This are as follows.

  • Module 1: Introduction HIV/AIDS

                  Unit 1: Overview  of HIV/AIDS Epidemic

                  Unit 2: Staging and syndromic criteria of HIV/AIDS

  • Module 2: Interventions to PMTCT

                 Unit1: Introduction to PMTCT

                 Unit2: Implementation of Comprehensive ANC services

                 Unit3: Optimal management of women in Labour and delivery

                 Unit 4: Postpartum management of women and infants

  • Module 3:  Counseling and testing, Social issues and safety and supportive care

                 Unit 1: Part 1: Introduction to counseling

                           Part 2: Overview of HIV counseling and testing of pregnant women

                 Unit 2: Lab diagnosis of HIV/AIDS (HIV Rapid test Demonstration and practical)

                 Unit 3: Safety and Supportive care in the work setting and care of the care giver

                 Unit 4: Social stigma and community issues.

  • Module 4: Infant Feeding

                 Unit 1:   Safe infant feeding practices

                 Unit 2: Supporting safe infant feeding options

                 Unit 3: Considerations for breast feeding mother

  • Module 5: PMTCT Plus

               Unit 1: Care of the HIV exposed infant and children

               Unit 2: Management of HIV infection in adults

               Unit 3: Linkage to care of women and families with HIV infection and community mobilization and sensitization

  •  Module 6: Program Implementation

                Unit1: Implementation and logistics in PMTCT program monitoring

                Unit2:  Di-breafing and field visit

 

 

The facilitation Team islead by: 

Prof. Ruth Nduati MBCHB, MMED, MPH: Associate professor and Chair  of the department of paediatrics University of Nairobi, Has over 20 years experience in HIV/AIDS and specificaly in PMTCT research and has been involved in one of the largest and most successful PMTCT prograam implementation programs in the country,

 

Dr. Jeniffer Oyieke: BA, MA,BScN, PHD- Counseling Psycology: Thematic Head University of Nairobi School of Nursing Sciences  (Midwifery/Obstetrics), with Vast experience in Counseling psychology and training.

Certification: On Successful completion of the source, a certificate is awarded which also contributes the the CME points.
